Las Vegas Police Officer Receives 12-Year Sentence for Armed Casino Robberies.
A Las Vegas Metro Police officer convicted of robbing off-strip casinos has been sentenced to 12 years in prison. Caleb Rogers, who was found guilty of stealing $165,000 in three casino heists at the Red Rock Resort, Aliante Hotel, and the Rio between November 2021 and February 2022, had threatened casino staff with a firearm to demand cash.
During the Rio robbery in February 2022, casino staff were able to disarm Rogers and wrestle him to the ground, leading to his arrest. He had brandished his department-issued revolver at security guards. Rogers was convicted of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, which carries a mandatory seven-year prison sentence, and three counts of interference with commerce by robbery.
Federal prosecutors argued that Rogers was a desperate gambling addict who resorted to crime due to his mounting debts. His own brother, Josiah Rogers, testified that they had planned the first robbery at the Red Rock together. However, Josiah returned to their hometown in Columbus, Ohio, after that incident.
Despite seeking leniency and citing Rogers' previous good standing as an emergency medical technician and his contributions to the community, US District Judge Andrew Gordon sentenced him to 12 years in prison. The judge acknowledged Rogers' service to the community but noted that his gambling addiction had taken over, leading him down a criminal path.
